Bike lanes
I was riding my brand new hand crafted bike (by Alex Pakis) the other day…

….. and I just so happened to be in a bike lane on a one way street going the wrong way. After getting the hairy eyeball from two on coming cyclists a third smugly told me I was going the wrong way. Duh! I know I was going the wrong way. My question is whether or not this is a bad thing? I mean I was in Brooklyn for Christ’s sake!
I see beautiful tall young models sans helmet’s with no lights wearing high heeled sandals talking on cell phones with tiny dogs in baskets riding the wrong way up 2nd ave in Manhattan all the time. I also see mobile homes (well, shopping carts filled with daily needs for the home impaired), people walking dogs, double parked cars… all in bike lanes.
I was in Brooklyn I tell you! Brooklyn! And it’s the most direct route for me to get to the Manhattan bridge. Am I so bad? Just because I’m not a 6 foot Norwegian Blonde? Is it better I ride on a street with no bike lane?

See, I have a tiny dog too. Does that help?

Aids Life Cycle…
Yesterday was the last day and closing ceremony of the seven day 545 mile Aids Life Cycle Ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles. A friend of mine was on the ride, so we came to support her and the cause. Next year Pedaler Clothing will be participating in the ride and raising some $$$ for the cause (hopefully we’ll be able to sponsor something too). This year 10.5 million dollars was raised to “help the beneficiaries and continue to provide the critical services and education needed to meet the growing needs of our community.” The closing ceremony was both touching and inspiring. Many thanks to all the riders and crew! Here are a few pics.. enjoy…
